The World Cup for Cross Country Rallies Most motorsport enthusiasts will know Formula One and the World Rally Championship, which are governed by the FIA. For off-road competition the FIA has created another world series, the World Cup for Cross Country Rallies. The World Cup for Cross Country Rallies comprises six to eight rounds. The vehicles compete in different categories. The rallies are run in South America, North Africa, in the Middle East and in Europe. The internationalism and the extremely diverse routes, tracks and challenges make our sport very colourful and multi-faceted. Two technically different categories of cars compete: "Superproduction" (T1 class since 2005) and "Production" (T2 class since 2005) cars. Different weight limits for two-wheel-driven and four-wheel-driven cars, many differences regarding measurements, air-restrictor dimensions etc. are meant to create a balance between different concepts. The points scoring system in the World Cup for Cross Country Rallies is similar to other FIA championships. Apart from a basic scoring system as in Formula 1, WRC, DTM etc (10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 points for the top eight finishers), additional points for each class are assigned (5-3-1 for the best three cars of both the T1 and T2 classes). The sum of these two scores of each round will be counted towards the overall points classification. |
